The Arc of Technology

Like subatomic particles in a bubble chamber, technology follows an invisible arc that one can track by the”bubbles” left behind as patent examiners classify each new innovation. Most often these classification bubbles form dense self-similar clusters; but occasionally a disruptive technology breaks free from the pack.

On these pages we shall explore what happens when two disparate technologies collide, and when disruptive technologies emerge. Our bubble chamber is statistical analysis.
